The chances are that you will not be thinking about getting your skin ready for the big day until a week before it happens! That is just not enough time to prepare and often causes breakouts resulting in bad pictures. It takes at least 2 weeks for your skin to adapt to a new skin care regiment and for the results to be visible. Many bridal planners advise brides to go get a facial and although that is a great relaxing thing to do, it should not be done within 14 days of the wedding. A facial often causes redness, breakouts and sometimes irritation that show up in the pictures. So if you want to get your facial by all means relax, enjoy it…..but plan it out so that you don’t have a bad reaction and your skin is less than flawless for your special day!
So want do you do to prepare your skin for your wedding day? Plan your skin care regiment now or at least 4 or 5 months before the wedding. To do this, you must first determine your skin type, which will help you to establish a proper skin care regimen. This combined with good eating habits and regular exercise will ensure that you will be radiant on your big day. Here is a good basic skin care regiment……
AM & PM
Apply a dime-sized amount of non-abrasive Cleanser to face and neck with fingertips. Avoid use of wash clothes, loofahs and etc.. Rinse gently with warm water remove all cleanser.
Apply toner to bring skin back to proper pH. Apply toner with a cotton ball.
AM Only
Apply a few drops (3-5) of antioxidant to cover the entire face and neck. May also be used on chest. A test patch should be done in a discreet area for 4 days prior to apply to the entire face to avoid allergic reaction
Apply Skin Lightener to the entire neck and face --feathering into hairline and chest.
Apply sunblock every morning with no exceptions
Reapply often when in direct sunlight, during perspiration or water activities.
PM Only
Apply Eye Cream to entire neck and face feathering into hairline and chest.
Apply Retinol twice a week to face and neck. Avoid the eye area. (Begin this step 2 weeks after starting other products to allow your skin to get adjusted. Advisory: It is common to have redness, irritation, flaking and peeling of the skin while using this product. It may also pull out all the acne under your skin, worsening your condition temporarily.) You should not use this product if you are pregnant or breast feeding. You should not wax while using this product.
If uncomfortable irritation occurs you may apply Hydrocortisone cream.
Here are some skin care tips to get your skin into picture perfect shape.
Drink water
Drink at least eight glasses of water each day. Water cleanses your skin from the inside out, improving its texture and eliminating blemishes.
Eat healthy
Add healthy foods to your diet, such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Berries are terrific for your skin, low in calories and delicious too. They are rich in antioxidants, which help to repair your skin and strengthen blood vessels.
Sleep well
Your skin and the rest of your body rejuvenates while you sleep. If you don’t get enough sleep, over a period of time your skin will look dull and worn out. Try to get 7-8 hours of restful sleep each night.
Exercise
Improved circulation will have your skin looking young and rosy. By doing cardiovascular exercise at least three day a week, you can keep both your skin and your body in shape.
This is a good time to curb your sugar, alcohol, and salt intake Sugar can make your skin dull, wrinkled and saggy. The sugar molecules attach themselves to the collagen fibers causing them to become stiff and inflexible leading to wrinkles and facial sag. Alcohol in excess affects the blood flow to the skin and can cause a red and blotchy complexion.
Salt as we all know can make us retain water and cause puffy eyes as well as a bloated look.
Purge your sin of acne flare-ups rather than suppress them. No one wants acne to show up on your big day. It is good to use products that purge rather than suppress your acne. Try to start using the products two or three months ahead of time.
Take your Vitamins! Taking a good quality vitamin will help your skin glow. Visit beautix.com and read the latest vitamin to help you achieve radiant skin.
Skip the tan! Healthy skin is in. All brides look better with the beauty of their own natural skin tones. The effects of the sun and tanning beds will age you quickly. Tanning beds even more so as the rays penetrate deeper into the dermis aging our skin up to 40 times faster than if we don’t use them. (American Skin Cancer Society, 2004)
Body Skin Care Tips
- Once, to twice, a week you should exfoliate your skin, concentrating on areas such as elbows, knees and feet. Follow up with a deep moisturizer.
- Many brides choose to tan before their wedding day. If you are using a self tanner, remember to experiment well before the event to determine the correct amount required to gain your desired look.
- Schedule a weekly manicure and pedicure either at home or at your beauty salon. This will not only allow you to have beautiful hands and feet on your wedding day, but will also help you relax and pamper yourself at this busy time.
- Keep your hands moisturized at all times. It is a good idea to keep a small bottle of moisturizer in your handbag.
Try not to compromise on your skin care requirements for the wedding. It is a day you have always dreamed of so make it a dream come true! If you can't look beautiful on the most important day for your future life, when can you?
You will have a much better time when you are feeling confident and beautiful, so go on and treat yourself and enjoy your special day!
